IT4EST is dedicated to addressing wildfire and sanitary risks in EU forests through advanced technologies for Prevention, Intervention, and Restoration/Valorisation, with the aim of enhancing forest management and promoting sustainable practices. By prioritizing both the prevention and management of these risks, IT4EST seeks to mitigate the impacts of crises while also optimizing the value of forest ecosystem services.
The project aligns with the European I3 thematic priorities by investing in bioeconomy and sustainable forestry practices, promoting the use of innovative technologies to improve resource management. This involves creating solutions that support various stakeholders, including forest owners, managers, and governmental bodies, ultimately contributing to climate-neutrality by 2050 through carbon sink preservation and enhanced forest growth.
IT4EST aims to foster economic growth via green technology, ensure environmental improvements, and enhance air quality and health outcomes, all while advocating for a circular economy and the valorization of forestry assets. Through interregional cooperation, the project focuses on less developed areas, aiming to integrate technological advancements with local forestry practices for broader ecological and economic benefits.
MNLT’s Role in the project
MNLT is overseeing the implementation of the Interregional Test Bed Demonstration, focusing on technologies for intervention and restoration. MNLT is also tasked with the Replication of Forest Test Beds in Less Developed Regions, which will be supported by the preparation of a Business and Investment Plan to facilitate market introduction and communication the IT4EST suite of technologies, solutions and best practices to key stakeholders.
